Rhode Island Cooks! Display - Nov 19-20, 2004

Occasionally, NELUG is invited to display at non-traditional venues. In the summer of 2004, we were approached about providing a display for the Rhode Island Cooks! show at the Providence Civic Center. The show was a food and cooking expo, and the organizers expected a need for some children's entertainment. What better than a big Lego train display? And a giant cow. We're not responsible for the cow.

This show was unique in several ways. First, we were able to expand the club's influence southward. A number of members living in RI and southern MA, were hoping for a closer venue to display thier creations.

It also was the premiere moment for Eric Kingsley's NELUG station, and Matt Wagner's skyscraper. This show ended up with three towers (including Alfred Speredelozzi's Burton Tower) and the NELUG skyline was starting to develop. Other MOCs included the carnival rides of Jamie Berard, Joe Comeau, and Jorge Fernandez. Chris Masi brought his trains. Tom Duggan, Mike Ripley, and Jonathan Dallas brought thier city buildings to round out the show. We were also please to have with us Tom Kowalczyk and two First Lego Leauge teams, demonstrating their robotic creations. We also had help from "Evil" Wayne McCaul, and new member Richard Legault.

Finally, this show was the first where we had to completely throw out the planned layout. Instead, (since the organizers decided to give us a different configuration) we had to build the layout on the fly. It is a testament to our experience in doing these shows that we were able to design the layout and setup all in time for the show's opening Friday night! The final layout design was eventually documented for future use.
