Wenham Museum October 2023

Trains/Layouts

On Sat/Sun October 21-22, 2023 NELUG displayed a Town and Train layout at the Wenham Museum in Wenham, MA.  This year NELUG did a Halloween themed display, with members building and/or converting MOCs with a Halloween twist.  In total 11 members contributed LEGO creations for the layout, including debuts by three new NELUG members!

Visitors to the museum were extremely happy to see the display, and marveled at the Halloween themed minifigs, vignettes and MOCs that were present.  The layout included a Carnival with working carnival rides, a castle complete with moat, witches, wizards and more, a spooky downtown area, a haunted house complete with a haunted graveyard, and a model of the MBTA Green line trolley that moved from station to station - and of course – lots of trains with a full railyard.

As we normally do, the layout was designed ahead of time on the internal NELUG forums based on who volunteered to participate and bring MOCs.  Because we have displayed multiple times at the Wenham Museum, we now try out different shapes and designs for the layout, to keep it interesting for both repeat visitors and ourselves!  This time featured a “U” shaped layout, which allowed visitors to get inside the “U” to view the display from multiple angles.  Pictures and videos from the weekend can be viewed from our public gallery.

A fun time was had by all and we look forward to our next time displaying at the museum in February 2024!

Amherst Railway Society Railroad 52nd Anniversary Hobby Show at The Big E

On Saturday 26 & Sunday 27 January 2019, NELUG will again display one of its amazing Lego train/city layouts at the 52nd Annual Amherst Railway Society Railroad Hobby Show at The Big E Fairground in Springfield, MA. Details about the show can be found on the Amherst Railway Society Railroad Hobby Show website, including show times, admission and parking info.  Admission is $15, kids under 15 FREE - parking $5.

It'll probably be cold, but come on inside where it's a little warmer, and see New England's biggest model train show and the latest novel layout designed by our members.  It'll have different levels, working trains (different trains will run at different times), and a detailed town area with much landscaping in view.  We will, as always, be in the Mallary Complex at location #160, in the second half of the building along the main corridor.

The show attracts over 20,000 people over the weekend, and is always a great hit.  See you at this great show!

* FUN FACT: Lego has produced Lego trains since 1966!
