NELUG Code of Conduct

The NELUG Executive Committee (EC) has agreed to introduce a new “Code of Conduct” for discussions on the NELUG website. As one member put it, NELUG’s primary purpose is to create a space for adult fans of LEGO to have fun discussing their shared hobby and collaborate on LEGO-related projects. Emphasis on “Fun” and “LEGO”. We all lose when members feel uncomfortable, or worse personally attacked. This is completely contrary to NELUG’s purpose. It is our sincere hope that introducing this code of conduct will allow fun to flourish unimpeded. We have adapted our code of conduct from that of the LEGO Ambassador Network. Please take note that this code of conduct is an official policy, and failure to follow these rules may result in dismissal from NELUG, use of the forums, and future events, at the discretion of the EC, as per article II, section 6 of the NELUG Bylaws. Feedback on the code of conduct is welcome, and changes will be considered based on that feedback.

General Pointers:

• The first rule of NELUG is to have fun
• We are all here with the best of intentions on behalf of our community and its members.
• Treat other members with respect and as you would wish to be treated yourself.
• Expect all submissions to be positive and in good faith.
• Please remember that the LEGO Group (TLG) facilitates many activities that we participate in. When we do choose to participate in those activities, we should respect the wishes of TLG on how we present those activities to the public.
• It can be hard to read people’s mood and if they are joking in a post.
• If you are in doubt, ask instead of assuming the post to be negative.
• If you are posting a joke, perhaps adding it as a smiley or simply putting “(just kidding)” could help avoiding misunderstandings
• Stay on topic, NELUG is about AFOLs. Posts should be LEGO related in some way, except in clearly marked forums.
• Posting spam and/or going off topic is generally frowned upon and to be avoided

Posting a new topic:

• It is not always necessary to create a new thread, please use the search tool and/or check out the appropriate forum to look for an already existing thread prior to making a new one. (An exhaustive search is not necessary. If you don’t find a thread on the topic quickly, it’s fine to start a new one)
• Replying in a topic: Consider reading your reply out loud or rereading it a few times before submitting, this is helpful in identifying where or if the post needs a few adjustments to carry your intentions properly.
• Quoting: It’s rarely needed to quote the entire post you’re replying to. Consider if the quote is needed and if you need only parts of the post to be in the quote.
• The EC reserves the right to remove posts that are egregiously off topic or otherwise violate the spirit of the Code of Conduct.

Posting images:

• Don’t post preliminary and/or confidential images of LEGO products.  Doing so could result in NELUG losing its RLUG status (no more LUGBULK and other perks).

Reporting:

• Instead of responding to or going into a heated discussion that you find inappropriate, please report it to the EC: ec5@nelug.org
• Reporting is not asking for someone to be kicked out of the NELUG, reporting is showing concern and letting the EC become aware of this concern. Any actions taken are entirely decided by the EC.
• When reporting, please include a short description of why you reported this member or topic.
• All reporting is kept anonymous; names are known by the EC but will not be shared with other parties.

Disposition of reported posts

• The EC maintains the prerogative to delete or edit posts that do not meet the standards defined in this policy.
• The EC will decide the resolution of reported posts by majority vote.
• The EC may decide any action against a member according to article II, section 6 of the by-laws.
